Found Dell Monitor E173fpc

I found this monitor in a dumpster. I was ready to "teardown" for parts until I did this research. I will be testing it after I reassemble it; i just replaced the bad capacitors.

This is how to disassemble a dell 17" monitor, this is a 1704FPVt while the one in the other video is a 1704FPTt. They look identical and both suffered from 2 bad capacitors on the power supply board. Both units would not turn on.

Educational, and worth watching, if only to listen to the wonderful Bach recording. At the start of 2013, my main monitor, a Samsung 24” from 2008, died. It’s replacement, this 17” Dell monitor from 2007, went down a few weeks later. Then a cheap 14” NEC monitor from 2001 kicked the bucket shortly thereafter. Then I tried one of my first monitors, a CRT display from 1999, but that was already dead. So I used another 14” NEC from 2000, and that lasted for about 8 months. Until November 14th. Luckily, I had already researched the problem and had purchased a capacitor replacement kit online from LCD Alternatives for the Dell monitor. So, the following morning I went to it. I started with the Dell rather than my expensive Samsung because I didn’t want to botch the best one on my first repair attempt.

There were some initial problems with a loose tip on the soldering iron, and some difficulty sucking up the old solder with the soldering wick, but overall the process went pretty well.

I used this Bach piece because I liked the mood of comical suspense. There’s a lot of pathos in the music, as well, but that's funny, too, against the drudgery of capacitor repair. Also, the logic of Bach’s musical construction makes it suitable for a step-by-step process video. Great singing, especially the sopranos.
